Inspired by the hit film, Sony Pictures Virtual Reality has announced Zombieland: Headshot Fever, a VR shooter with the same cast of characters as the movie that will be released later this year.
In contrast to other zombie movies, Zombieland was an instant hit when it was released in 2009 and has since been a cult favorite due to its comedic theme and a grim sense of humor. The film, which stars Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Abigail Breslin, and Emma Stone, is about shooting and destroying zombies, and Sony’s latest VR game will be no different.
The aim of Headshot Fever is to destroy as many zombies as possible in the shortest amount of time possible while taking the role of the same cast of characters: Tallahassee, Columbus, Wichita, and Little Rock.
Set possibly after the events of Zombieland and Zombieland: Double Tap, the group is safely staying in the finest billionaire’s mansion they could find when they bump into a player hiding inside one of the house’s panic rooms. The quartet then agrees to train the player in the Zombieland Invitational, the world’s worst zombie-killing racecourse, in order to make him the greatest zombie killer of all time.
Zombieland: Headshot Fever, developed by XR Games, continues the running gag of the rules, in which the game boasts a variety of features that seem to be influenced by zombie arcade modes seen in Time Crisis and House of the Dead.
Players will have access to a variety of strong and upgradeable firearms, such as pistols, shotguns, and submachine guns; however, Headshot Fever’s latest Adrenaline system, which slows time, is the game’s key appeal. And it seems that getting high scores can unlock firearms and perks.
In the latest zombie shooter, the quickest time wins so that players can compete against others and their peers in Headshot Fever’s leaderboards. Although it’s unclear if there would be a cooperative mode in which players will mow down waves of zombies with their buddies and roommates, this model by XR Games will be ideal for a co-op mode.
XR Games managed by business experts who have worked with teams at Rockstar, EA, Codemasters, Sunmo, and Team 17. As a fan of the series, Bobby Thandi, the creator and CEO of XR, posted on the game’s announcement, stating that being trusted with Zombieland is “extra satisfying and thrilling.”
Zombieland Headshot Fever is scheduled for a Spring 2021 release for Windows Mixed Reality, Oculus Quest, Oculus Rift, HTC Hive, and later on, the PS VR.
