St Kilda star Dan Hannebery to return, but Essendon Bombers youngster Zach Reid out for the season

St Kilda veteran Dan Hannebery will make his long-awaited return this week through the VFL after a litany of soft tissue issues marred yet another season for the former Swans star.

“He’ll play VFL this week, which is great. He’s been very patient and it’s been a bit of a long road for him but he’ll play roughly 70 per cent game time down there,” Saints coach Brett Ratten said on Thursday.

“He’s done a great job, it’ll be good to get him back.

“[He’ll play] at least a couple [in the VFL before being considered for the AFL].”

The Saints will regain fellow ex-Sydney midfielder Zak Jones for their clash with Brisbane on Saturday night.

“He’s ticked everything off from the kilometres in his legs and what he’s done from a footy sense,” Ratten said.

“Regardless if he plays VFL or AFL he’s got the same game time so he may as well play AFL.”

Max King was on restricted minutes at training but is set to take on the Lions, according to Ratten.
