The legend of ‘David,’ the local man who left a $1,400 tip for seven employees at Notchtop Bakery and Café last Wednesday (Jan. 20), continues to grow as he continues his incredible generosity around Estes Park.. This time at Smokin’ Dave’s BBQ and Brew in Estes Park where, on Thursday, he left an $1,800 tip for the nine employees working that night.
Similar to the case at Notchtop, this is not the first time David has done something like this at Smokin’ Dave’s. Back on Nov. 17 he left a $1,600 tip with his signature note, “COVID sucks! $200 for everyone – eight hardworking people,” was left on both tips at Smokin’ Dave’s and the most recent $1,400 tip left at Notchtop.
The patrons name is David, and owner of Nothctop, Nailya Khametvalieva says he is a local who lives just outside of Estes Park.
“We do know his last name but I haven’t shared it because I do not know if he would like that,” said Khametvalieva. “This is the second time he has given a big tip. He came in about two months ago and left a big tip before they closed us for Thanksgiving.”
All four of his large tips (two at Notchtop and two at Smokin’ Dave’s) total $4,950, all given within the past two months.
A Facebook post from Smokin’ Dave’s read, “We call him ‘The COVID Bandit’ … you may have heard of him by now … you’ll find him spreading cheer and support to restaurants and cafes. We hope this brings a smile to your face! We feel so thankful and blessed!”
The story of David’s kindness towards the Notchtop employees has garnered national attention, reaching local markets as far as Minnesota and as national as CNN.
