Bulls have right stuff to spearhead SA charge in Europe

Exactly when it will happen remains shrouded in pandemic-related uncertainty, but South Africa’s four major rugby franchises will already be turning their thoughts with gusto to the challenges of European competition.

It is beyond doubt now that Sanzaar (and Super Rugby) has been left behind by the Bulls, Sharks, Stormers and Lions, who will latch instead – eventually – onto a rejigged PRO16 in the northern hemisphere.

By way of “appetiser”, a mini-version of the tournament has been provisionally earmarked for mid-April onward (a two-group, pleasingly easy-format Rainbow Cup) although it looks tenuous under current circumstances.
