Angel investors of Hban keep the wolves from the door of small businesses | Ireland

Starting a business can be devilishly hard, so it helps to have angels on your side. Business angels play a significant role in Wicklow Wolf, the beer company set up by friends Quincey Fennelly and Simon Lynch in 2014.

In 2016 they secured €2 million in investment from angels, which helped them build their brewery and canning plant at Newtownmountkennedy. The company has 18 staff and its backers include food industry veterans such as Stephen Twaddell, a former president of Kellogg Europe; Richard Cullen, who co-founded and sold the Jelly Bean Factory; and La Rousse Foods co-founder Marc Amand.

Fennelly and Lynch secured their angel investors through the Halo Business Angel Network (Hban), an all-island initiative of Enterprise Ireland, Inter- TradeIreland and Invest Northern Ireland.
